SOME THOUGHTS:
In our time there are many artist who do something because it is new; They see there value and their justification in this newness. They are deceiving themselves; Novelty is seldom the essential. This has to do with one thing only. Making a subject better from its intrinsic nature.
I often question my own value but not to the point where I sacrifice what I truely believe in.
I love to paint but because I love to paint does not make me a good painter. I also love to view other artists web and blog sites and I tell you this now. I am humbled.
Have you ever noticed what a funny thing painting is. The abstract artist insist on their connection with the visible reality while the figurative artist insist that what they really care about is the abstract qualities of life.
As I prepare to paint I place an empty canvas on the easel. I stand back and look and say to myself, "what a beautiful painting an empty canvas is. I only hope I'm worthy not to muck it up". Please visit my web site www.davidraiford.com.
08 ELECTIONS ALREADY!
I do not consider my self a democrat or a repuplican because in my opinion there is not a dimes worth of difference between the two of them. However I've noticed that the democrats depend more on the fringe groups for more votes and that is really what this is all about, votes. From the first day either party is elected they spend the rest of their time buying votes so they can be re-elected. But all we here is criticism of one another. It is so bad that I am not worried about a civil war over in Iraq. I'm worried about the civil war here in the United States. The only difference is we are not shooting at each other , yet.
July 1, 08 Election time again.
1) If congress spent as much time providing for us as they do for themselves we would all be better off.
2) Instead of sending our troops all around the world to fight agressors they should be brought back here to protect us from the politicians.
3) "All I can say for the United States Senate is that they open with a prayer and close with an investigation."
4) A congressman is paid $174,000.00 a year (a figure they vote for themselves during the dark of the night, every year) is nothing compared to the cost of their staff (6) including their families and their healthcare, (the very best money can buy) travel, committe fees and related costs. After serving six years they are elligable for a complete retirement with total benefits. Did I mention free postage and office space?
5) "Corrupt politicians make the other 10% look bad."
6) "It is not the nature of politics that the best man be elected. The best men do not want to govern their fellow men."
7) "A typical vice of congress is to avoid saying anything real on real issues."
8) "A liberial is a person too broadminded to take his own side in an argument"
9) "When the Founders of the American republic wrote the U.S. Constitution in 1787, they did not envision a role for political parties in the governmental order. They sought through various constitutional arrangements such as separation of powers, checks and balances, and indirect election of the President by an electoral college to insulate the new governmental order from political parties and factions. In spite of the Founders' intentions, the U.S. was the first nation to develop parties organized on a national basis and to transfer executive power from one faction to another via an election in 1800. This initself is the root of our problems, the two party system. It would have been better to have been three. This has become a parodox where the american people become the losers no matter who wins
